The Neheim planting spade was developed on the occasion of the large storm damaged areas after "Kyrill" by A. Ernst and M. Nolte, Forstliches Bildungszentrum für Waldarbeit und Forsttechnik, at the Lehr- und Versuchsforstamt Arnsberger Wald and presented at the KWF conference in Schmallenberg. This planting method is suitable for planting deciduous and coniferous wood with a root length of up to 30 cm; the planting site does not have to be cleared. Cohesive soils that cannot crumble clearly limit the use of this planting technique! The Neheim planting spade is convincing in that the planting hole is not created by force or percussion technique, but by body weight. Furthermore, 80% of the work can be done in an upright position.
